ABOUT |
ARTIST - Karla is from Northern California and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from San Jose State University. After college, she exhibited her work in local clubs and coffee shops while working as a Graphic Designer. She moved to Southern California after meeting her husband and after a long break from painting she recently returned to what she describes as her true artistic passion, Abstract Expressionism. Her work is driven primarily by her love of color and texture. Known for bold colors, organic shapes, and a build up of layer upon layer of color, her work is described as expressive and rich in depth. She loves the spontaneity of the abstract painting process, having an idea of colors but not knowing how the finished piece will look. Layers are created by removing some areas that are still wet with a spray bottle or scraper to reveal interesting colors underneath or by applying thick areas of paint that give the work added texture. In the Summer of 2016, she began exhibiting her work online and at local art shows, selling to collectors across the U.S. Her work was included in the 2016 October issue of Better Homes and Gardens and in January of 2016, one of her pieces was chosen to be featured in the “Spotlight on LA Collection on Saatchiart.com. In March of 2015 she was featured in the New Abstract Expressionists Collection on Saatchiart.com. She lives in Manhattan Beach, CA with her husband and two sons.
