Student Work
Here are examples of artwork created by high school students at Leuzinger High School in Lawndale where I was a student teacher for 16 weeks.
COLLAGE - students learned about symmetry and asymmetry through the art of collage. NOTAN PAPER ART - Students continued to learn about balance by using positive and negative space, symmetry and asymmetry using colored paper and utility knives. ZENTANGLE HANDS were created using line designs where students experimented with shape, space, movement and other principles of design and elements of art. Students worked with oil pastels to create Wayne Thiebaud inspired DESSERTS. POP ART CANDY artwork was created using the grid drawing method and color mixing with acrylic paint. Students used recycled aluminum cans to create FACES. The objective here was that students learn to work in color values to create depth. The SCRATCHBOARD ANIMALS was a lesson on texture and line. They were created using DIY scratchboards (oil pastels and black paint/soap mixture). Students chose from reference copies or internet images and used a variety of tools to scratch texture and highlights into their animals. The last project, LYRIC/POEM ILLUSTRATION was an assignment where students chose a song lyric or poem and used imagery to explain their interpretation. They used colored pencils and watercolor pencils with sharpies. They were also required to write a reflection on the back about their piece.
